What SEO Actually Costs in Singapore — and What the PSG Grant Covers
“How much does SEO cost in Singapore?” is the question every SME owner asks and no vendor answers straight. The honest answer: it ranges widely, and the cheap end is cheap for reasons that will cost you more later. Here is the real picture — and how the PSG grant changes it.
Why the quotes are all over the place
SEO pricing spans from a few hundred dollars a month to five figures because the label covers wildly different work. At the bottom: automated, offshore, volume-based retainers. In the middle: competent local execution. At the top: senior strategy for competitive markets. The word “SEO” tells you nothing; the work behind it is everything.
The trap of cheap SEO
Cheap SEO is cheap because it can be faked at volume — thin AI-spun articles, low-quality links, and dashboards engineered to look busy. It photographs well and drives nothing. Some of it carries penalty risk that costs real money to unwind. The China-vendor-versus-local debate usually comes down to this: you are not comparing prices, you are comparing whether anything real happens.
◆ GEO FOCUS — GEO raises the floor on what “cheap” can deliverAI answer engines are not simply reproducing Google’s rankings. In an Ahrefs study of 15,000 prompts, only 12% of URLs cited by ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot also appeared in Google’s top 10 for the same query. Perplexity had higher overlap, but still only about 29% of its cited URLs ranked in Google’s top 10. The difference is even clearer across AI platforms. Ahrefs analysed approximately 76.7 million Google AI Overviews, 957,000 ChatGPT prompts and 953,000 Perplexity prompts and found that only 14% of the top 50 mentioned sources were shared across all three platforms. In other words, there is no single “AI ranking” to optimise for. Research from Princeton’s GEO study also found that specific optimisation techniques could increase visibility in generative-engine responses by up to 40%, although the effect varied by domain. That is why cheap SEO built around article volume and backlink counts is becoming less useful. AI visibility depends on whether a business has credible, understandable, well-structured and authoritative information that answer engines can retrieve, interpret and cite. The takeaway: GEO does not replace SEO. It raises the standard for it. The technical foundations, authoritative content, entity clarity and genuine expertise that help a site perform in search are increasingly important when the search engine is generating the answer itself.
What credible SEO is priced on
- Senior practitioner time — strategy, technical work, editorial judgement.
- Real content built to intent, not word-count quotas.
- Technical health and entity work that serves both Google and AI engines.
- Reporting tied to leads and visibility, not vanity rank screenshots.
How PSG changes the maths
This reframes the whole cost conversation. The grant co-funds a share of a qualifying, pre-approved engagement — which means credible SEO can cost you roughly what a cheap retainer would, without the risk and the wasted spend. The grant does not make bad SEO good; it makes good SEO affordable.
⚑ PSG GRANT: WHAT IT ACTUALLY COVERED For eligible Singapore SMEs, the PSG provided up to 50% support on eligible costs, subject to a S$30,000 annual grant cap for EnterpriseSG-supported solutions. For example, a S$2,000/month engagement over 12 months would cost S$24,000, with a theoretical maximum of S$12,000 in support if the full engagement were eligible. However, PSG stopped accepting new applications after 29 September 2026; businesses seeking new support should now assess whether their project qualifies under the EDGE Grant instead.
■ REAL SEO RESULT — SINGAPORE B2B CASE STUDYSingapore B2B technology company: Organic traffic increased 312%, from 800 to 3,300 monthly visitors in 8 months, with 47 Page 1 keywords. The client reported enquiries increasing from 3 per month to more than 30.
■ REPORTING INSIGHT — WHAT THE DATA ACTUALLY TELLS USAcross our SEO reporting, the strongest gains are rarely explained by rankings alone. When Semrush visibility improves alongside Google Search Console clicks and impressions, the pattern typically points to broader topical coverage rather than a single keyword win. Our analysis shows that the most durable growth comes when technical SEO, content depth and internal linking work together: more relevant pages begin ranking, existing pages move into higher-value positions, and search visibility expands across the topic cluster. The important insight is not simply that rankings increased, but why the increase happened and whether it translated into commercially relevant search demand.
The right way to think about it
Stop asking “what is the cheapest SEO?” and start asking “what is the cheapest way to get real results that hold up in an AI-first search world?” With PSG, the answer is usually a quality local engagement — not the bargain that quietly does nothing.
Cheap SEO is the most expensive marketing you can buy, because you pay for it twice: once in fees, again in the results you never got. The grant exists so you don’t have to make that trade.
